The Challenge
Heston's new Fat Duck restaurant in Melbourne wanted to install an 8m x 2m jigsaw puzzle. The artwork would be supplied as 2 large canvases as well as a number of smaller pieces. All the elements would be photographed in our studio and composited into a single file ready for printing and cutting in 19500 pieces.
Colour accuracy on a massive scale - 8 metre wide!
The project required critical colour management from start to finish. Also due to the large format nature of the final output, we developed a range of strict processes to maintain maximum resolution so that the file piece would be consistent and ensure it looked as close to the original artwork as possible.
19,500 pieces being organised by the installation team at the Michelin star restaurant!
Digital compositing a 15 gigabyte file
The was one of the largest compositing projects we had worked on. The finished size had to be 8m wide by 2m high at 100%. The detail needed to be pin sharp. In order to achieve this, we developed a process right from the start to maintain colour accuracy and resolution.

Jon ryan25/04/2024I highly recommend Image Centre. Zed discussed options with me initially on the phone and then invited me to the studio for a preview to make sure I was happy before printing. The studio's in a great location between Bath and Bristol. Zed and Tom kindly dropped the canvas to my door which i am really grateful for as there is no way it would have fitted in my car! I contacted Image Centre based in Bath, who have a good track record, and they made some 20 inch x 16 inch Giclee prints on Hahnemuhle paper which look superb. Great service. Will be using Image Centre again!.
